Entire Mae Hong Son Loop by Public Transportation?

Posted by CKDexterHaven on 12/8/2017 at 11:50

How easy are the connections by bus or van to do all of the Mae Hong Son Loop? I do not want to drive a car or motorcycle and am not enthusiastic about engaging a private driver. Two of us are going to Soppong for 2 nights from Chiang Mai. The service that gets us there offers several trips back in the same direction. It's not clear from the posted itinerary how connections would line up to travel on. Also it's a lot longer trip. If it is a reliable option is there a good place to bre ...

From Isaan to Ko Kut?

Posted by Shining on 14/8/2017 at 06:40

Hey there, we are planning a trip through Isaan in November and for our last couple of days a short intermezzo at the sea. I thought, it might be an idea of trying Ko Kut, as the Ko Chang Archipelago is also in the east... But it seems, it is not so easy to connect it to our route. I thought about taking a train, probably from Ubon, and it seems, as there is a connection to Kaeng Koi (?), where it might be possible to jump on the green line to Pattaya or Marp ta Put (?). But I was not able to f ...

Posted by kasheshe on 12/8/2017 at 10:49

Hallo everyone! We recently moved to Bangkok (a week ago to be precise!) and already feeling excited. Currently looking at booking our first holiday in Thailand and was thinking of visiting Khao Sok NP and then making our way to the Surin Islands during the school holidays in December 2017 (would be over xmas and NY). Would appreciate some advice on how to get to Khao Sok from Bangkok- (we have our own car but not sure whether we can move around easily within the park?) and from there how best t ...

Bangkok to Penang by train

Posted by Antaro on 27/7/2017 at 04:23

Hi there, from what I found out, it seems as if the way to go from Thailand to Penang has changed last year with the introduction of new electrical trains in Malaysia. Two questions about that, as I didn't find any info: - Is there still a train running from Thailand all the way down to Butterworth with border formalities in Pedang Basar or do I have to change trains there? - Is it still possible to buy a ticket in Thailand for the whole way or do I need to get a new ticket at the border for ...

Two weeks in Thailand !

Posted by chptvh on 27/6/2017 at 10:19

Greetings, My girl friend and I will spend two weeks, the last week in July and first week in August in Thailand for the first time. We don’t know whether or not we should book hotels in advance for that particular period. We will fly in and also out from Bangkok. I would love to spend sometimes on nice beaches, to have good food and to do some sightseeing of natures but not really interested in man made things like ruins or temples. Our plan is to stay in Bangkok one day to taste delicious st ...

Bangkok splurge on meal?

Posted by CKDexterHaven on 16/7/2017 at 01:20

Is any fairly costly restaurant—or other extravagance—in Bangkok highly recommended as an exception to a fairly moderate travel budget? My father used to speak highly of afternoon tea at the Oriental, but it may not be all it was decades ago. I've never been to Thailand and hear that market food, etc. is of such high quality that anywhere really "nice" may just be about marketing or an atmosphere least challenging to Westerners. Any tips on how to assure the best, least disappoin ...

Hopefully someone here can help *The airport shuttle "is timed to meet arriving flights", until when? Does it operate 24/7? *Does the airport shuttle go to Ao Nammao? *Are longtail boats really available at Ao Nammao to Railay Beach until 2300 every day? Is the fee higher after dark? Will we need to pay for the whol ...

Use Thai visa for second entry rather than first?

Posted by Williamhdc on 27/6/2017 at 23:46

I've been visiting Thailand for ages and my wife is Thai...never thought I'd be posting a Thai visa question, but here goes... I'll be visiting Thailand for about 9 weeks, with a side trip to Mauritius a week after I first arrive there. Can I get a Thai visa before entering the first time (easy in L.A., where I live) but ask the Thai immigration agent in BKK to give me a 30 day arrival entry, and not start my visa yet, so I can "save" it for the second entry? If not I think I'll need ...

Lighthouse bungalows

Posted by mikal83 on 26/6/2017 at 05:14

Have just read the latest blog from TF and its section on Koh Phangan and wanted to check out if they praised where we stayed at the Lighthouse bungalows and to our dismay, they weren't mentioned. Well I will. We stayed there for 4 nights and we were very happy with the owners, staff, food and most of all the accom. Perched on a steep slope built into cliff edge, the large room with ensuites had a view to die for. As it can only be reached by foot or small motorbike, its very quiet and a real re ...

Beach for family late July early August???

Posted by jbmcd1 on 22/6/2017 at 21:00

Greetings, I am looking for a beach for my family (2 children age 10 and 12) for the last week in July and first week in August. At that point we will have been traveling for 6 weeks and will be looking for some proper holiday time. We will be returning from Laos to Bangkok at this time. Flights to Koh Samui (to get to Koh Tao or Ko Pha Nagano) might cost too much for our budget at that point. Though I would welcome advice on getting the cheapest round trip flight back to Bangkok. Is it not a ...

We are then looking at around 10 / 11 days down in the south islands but I'm struggling to decide exactly where. We want what most people want - jungle treks, waterfalls, snorkeling, boat trips e.t.c but we don't want hordes of people everywhere and party backpackers. Islands/Beach in August....is Koh Samui the best option?

Posted by juliet17 on 21/6/2017 at 23:48

Hi, My boyfriend and I are spending three weeks exploring Thailand and Cambodia this August. We'd like to spend 5-6 days on a beach/island hopping. I understand Koh Samui and the surrounding area don't get as much rain at that time of year, but it also sounds like it's built up and a bit of a party scene. We are 27 and love nice cocktails, but are mostly looking for authenticity and a way to relax after taking the bar. Are there other places besides Koh Samui that wouldn't get so much rain ...
