Travel insurance premium refund
Posted by alarcher on 31/3/2020 at 21:24
We took out travel insurance for our planned trip this year (not with Nomads). As the trip is impossible I requested a refund of the premium. So far no luck apart for polite refusal as "you didn't cancel within the first 114 days"
Any suggestions?

al,
Bummer all the way around. I'd be interested to learn where you were going, what the travel dates would have been, and your destination(s).
Perhaps you can start by reading the fine print of your contract to learn under what circumstances you can cancel and get a refund. Maybe there is something in their own contract language that can help you.
Thinking ahead to the day when we can all, hopefully, start traveling again, perhaps instead of a refund you could switch the dates of the insurance coverage to a future date, or get a credit to use towards a future trip (to the same place or elsewhere).
Finally, depending on where you are, there may be a government agency to assist you. For example, I live in the states, and the insurance business is typically overseen by a state government agency. If you have something similar where you are, perhaps you can ask for assistance, or find out if any special regulations have been implemented for this situation.
I hope that helps. Good luck.

Thanks exacto
The contract specified refund in 1st 14 days only. I took the insurance out in October 2019
The trip was from Australia, in/out of Milan Italy and 4 months in Europe May to September. As this trip is clearly impossible to happen I'm trying to argue that the contract is "frustrated" ie incapable of being performed, they can't insure a trip that can't go ahead.
They have offered to change the dates till October 2020 but this is of no use to me.
I will check out "consumer affairs" for assistance, I have a feeling they might be busy atm :)
