Posted by goodmclean on 25/4/2019 at 04:46

Hi, we have left some clothing at our guesthouse (Manee house) in Chiang Mai , they will not send them to us. Is there anyone going to Chiang Mai who would be willing to pick the items up (3 pairs of kids togs). We are in no rush, but would like them back eventually as they were birthday presents. We are happy to pay the postage to Brisbane, Australia. Thanks in advance. Any help appreciated. ...

Krabi and surrounding islands in July ?

Posted by CathJones on 18/4/2019 at 11:14

I’m travelling in Thailand with my husband and teenage daughters for 3 weeks in July/ August. We’d like to spend 3/4 days in Krabi, on or around Railey beach and perhaps head off to some of the islands in that area. I’m a bit concerned about the weather. I would expect downpours as it’s the rainy season, but are the showers short-lived in the main and will there be enough sun to make the most of the lovely beaches? My friend went to Phuket last August and the weather was glorious the ...

Driving a 4 wheeled vehicle in Thailand....

Posted by khunwilco on 20/4/2019 at 14:59

Driving in Thailand - perception versus reality... ““Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?” Foreigners who drive in Thailand frequently turn on the vitriol when it comes to talking about their fellow roads users...automatically excluding themselves from the equation and concomitantly implying that their driving skills are far superior to those of any Thai people..... Self-perception suggests that they are the ...

New guest house in Phun Phin, near Surat Thani train station

Posted by tilosettmacher on 26/3/2019 at 04:48

Ban Rim Nam is a new, modern hostel style of guest house, offering a dorm and family rooms on affordable prizing. The rooms are airconditioned, for which you need the thick duvets offered. Space is limited, and the location at the river can not promise a quiet night. but their river terrace snack bar is a perfect place to relax in this charmy small town, if you want to spend a night between train and bus and ferry and not stay at the provincial capital. More information on their web presence and ...

Posted by mtbakerstu on 6/11/2018 at 03:59

Just a quick word to TravelFish admins that I booked at Bamboo Bay Resort in Ko Lanta for December earlier this year. Just received word via that Bamboo Bay has closed their business. I see Bamboo Bay as a reviewed and recommended resort in your reviews for Ko Lanta, so thought I would mention it here. Now in search of another place to stay in Ko Lanta in December.... Happy Travels. Mtbakerstu ...

Update on Ko Jum

Posted by antoniamitchell on 13/12/2018 at 01:09

Having recently (Dec 2018) having returned from my second trip to Ko Jum (first was Dec 2016), I wanted to share a few updates. The island hasn't changed much since my last visit. There is a little bit of new development around the top end of the long beach (the Golden Pearl section) – I saw a new small bungalow development going in between Golden Pearl Beach Resort and Season Bungalow. I also noticed a new coin-operated laundrette opposite Season Bungalows, and a couple of new houses. But ...

Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai

Posted by mtbakerstu on 20/11/2018 at 10:45

So I'm headed to Chiang Mai next month. Told my dad, who said that he found Chiang Mai boring??? LOL. I'm not sure he knew how to hit it. He did suggest that Chiang Rai is a more compelling place to go, though when he went it was on a travel restriction advisory of some sort, so he didn't get there. Was wondering: 1. Is Chiang Rai an easy travel reach from Chiang Mai, (which will be my home base). If so, how far in time to travel? 2. Is Chiang Rai safe and worthwhil ...

Ko Rok closes to camping?

Posted by mtnmichelle on 17/11/2018 at 05:03

Hey all, I’m on Koh Lanta staying at Kantiang Beach and we tried to arrange a transfer to Koh Rok to camp at the national park for a few nights and several different travel agencies told us that camping there is no longer allowed. Not sure if that is actually the case, we were unable to clarify whether that just meant until the busier season but one travel agent said it is closed due to trash like Maya Bay. If anyone has any insight that’d be appreciated. Koh Lanta is nice but we are more l ...

I have a bike licence and can rent a scooter. We prefer the non beaten track. After Chiang Mai we are heading to Chiang Rai for a couple of days and over to Nth Laos for a few weeks. Any suggestions please? Thanks, Pete ...

Solo female on the Mae Hong Son Loop

Posted by miech333 on 4/10/2018 at 21:26

hey guys, I'm hoping to do the Mae Hong Son loop when I visit this January, 2019. Heading in solo and going to find some fellow people that want bike the route with me. However, if I don't find anyone, I still want to do it. Solo female doing the Mae Hong Son loop? Thoughts? I am moderately experienced on a motorbike. I live in a city and ride a 50cc scooter around town. I also survived in Vietnam, albeit sleepy Hoi An. Oh, I almost drove off a cliff in SaPa, but I feel like I learned s ...

Do you have any recommendations where treks are nicer: Chiang Mai, Pai or Chiang Dao? Do you have a good agency to recommend we do a trip with? ...

Rental Car advice

Posted by mtnmichelle on 20/9/2018 at 14:56

My husband and I are planning to travel to Ayutthaya, Khao Yai and then East towards the Laos border and back down again towards Trat and Koh Kut. We want to rent a car for most of this journey and we expect to travel for month or so. Where is the best place to rent a car? Should we do it in Bangkok and simply return it there? If we go to Koh Kut is there a safe place to park a car in Trat? Would people recommend renting cars in multiple destinations and taking buses for the longer portions of ...

Banhin Rom Pier to Ko Yao Noi

Posted by kimct on 2/9/2018 at 14:31

I'm trying to see how to get from Phang-Nga area to Ko Yao Noi mid-December...on a Sunday! From info I found it seems like it will be impossible to find a public ferry on this day, so this means I shall either have to travel to Phuket and get a ferry from there... or hire a private boat? Has anyone done this before and has an idea of how much this would cost? And of so, is it even possible to hire a private boat from the Banhin Rom Pier instead of Tha Dan Pier? Thanks in advance! ...

Islands in Thailand, a definitive guide

Posted by somtam2000 on 27/8/2018 at 02:19

So, David went a bit mad and wrote what I’d say is close to a definitive guide to Thailand’s islands. In this 8,000 word epic, he touches on 109 island in the country. Yes, you read that right, One Hundred and Nine. Welcome to the Travelfish society of island nerds. Broken into six regional groups, there should be some new ones here even for the most dedicated Thai island bum. So please take a look, share it with your friends and do post below letting us know how many of these you have bee ...

Sand flies on Koh Kut

Posted by kjay on 31/5/2018 at 18:55

Hi, I'm travelling with my family to Thailand in January. We are looking at going to Koh Kut for a week and are interested to know how bad the sand flies are. We spent a week on Koh Mak in 2010 and were covered in bites by the end - I also reacted badly to the bites, needing to attend the clinic for medication. Is Koh Kut similar with sand flies?? Thanks! ...

New: Bangkok to the islands the slow way

Posted by somtam2000 on 5/8/2018 at 01:02

We’ve been slowly working through our itineraries to make them a bit more useful and just wanted to plug the latest one, which we’ve titled Bangkok to the islands the slow way. Most travellers head from Bangkok to Chumphon or Surat Thani by an overnight train or bus (or via a quick flight) skating past quite a few interesting spots along the way. So what we did was take the existing route, but figured out how you could spend three weeks doing it rather than 12 hours. I imagine some of ...
