Ferry from Yao Yai to Phi Phi

Posted by Indu on 23/8/2017 at 22:00

Hi, I'm planning to spend a couple of days on Yao Yai in end- November, a night in Phi Phi and 3-4 days in Koh Mook. Is it possible to get a boat (ferry) directly from Yao Yai to Phi Phi or do I need to go back to Phuket and head from there? I don't want to hire a pvt speedboat as it seems expensive. Apologies if someone has already posted this, I'm really hoping the good folk here can help out! ...

At David - Wat Suthat

Posted by Tilapia on 27/2/2018 at 13:14

Hi David, I followed the latest Soapbox to your Twitter feed and saw the image of the Wat Suthat signs, and the comment that "Wat Suthat in Bangkok has raised its ticket for foreigners from 20 to 100 baht. Free for Thais." You should also have added that after sundown, the best time to visit Wat Suthat, the ticket booth is closed. At that time the temple is free for everyone, and it's open 24 hours to the best of my knowledge. Cheers, Tilapia ...

Chiang Mai food tours?

Posted by Danila on 22/2/2018 at 04:18

Greetings, sorry if this has already been posted about, I searched several times, different key words, but couldn't find anything. Currently enjoying Chiang Mai. We have another 10 days or so here, have been enjoying wandering around, and following some of TF's recommendations. Does anyone have a recommendation for either a walking or perhaps cycling foodie tour of Chiang Mai? We often eat at night market stalls, but not speaking the language makes it a bit tricky to dive deeper into the local c ...

Diving in Thailand February?

Posted by Danila on 25/10/2017 at 10:42

Greetings, we're planning a bit more SE Asia, and looking to the wonderful Travelfish team for some answers again please! Background: older couple, 20+ years diving, lots of places! We know that Thailand tends to be more of a learning to dive place, but with about 6 weeks in country, we're thinking of spending a week or so diving. Timeframe is February, so I think both east and west are pretty ok weatherwise. We've decided against a liveaboard, as it's just a bit too intense for us, we prefer 2- ...

Hi, I am an 63 year old, and would love to back-pack across Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. However, accepting the limitations posed, I have decided that it may be easier to join a tour group. I would like to spend 2 months on tour, mainly cultural, with good amenities, tour guides, organized, with visas etc If you have done this type of trip, please recommend, the Tour company and any other advise, will be much appreciated. ...

Thailand travel itinerary in May?

Posted by Monica07 on 21/1/2018 at 05:48

Hello! I'm new here and hoping for some advice on Thailand in May - We have two weeks from 6th to 21st and are flying into and out of Bangkok. From what I've read of the weather we are best to completely avoid the south west and head straight for the south east? Any advice or confirmation of this would be greatly appreciated, as I was looking forward to seeing Phuket/Krabi/Phi Phi islands but if we're going all that way I don't want to be uncomfortable the whole time. If Koh Samui/Koh Phanga ...

Update on buses from Phuket airport to Phuket Town

Posted by antoniamitchell on 16/1/2018 at 18:23

Hi everyone, Just a quick update on my recent experience of the buses and mini buses from Phuket airport into Phuket Town . Although the mini bus desks all still list Phuket Town as a destination, none of them will sell you a ticket to Phuket town. I was variously told no buses went to Phuket town and I should take a taxi; that the buses did go but I'd missed the last one for the day so I should take a taxi; that the buses did go but only once every 3 hours so I should take a taxi; etc. ...

Travel with DSLR camera?

Posted by fleet114 on 4/12/2017 at 11:53

Hi - I'm about to leave from the US on a 3 week solo-backpacking trip to Thailand. My itinerary will look like this: Bangkok>Krabi>Railay>Koh Lanta>Khao Sok>Chiang Mai>Bangkok I plan to stay in flashpacker style hotels and guest houses for most of the trip. Should I plan to travel with my DSLR camera or should I live with taking pictures from my iPhone? I plan to do a good bit of hiking and adventuring on my trip. I'm not concerned bringing the camera hiking with me as ...

Palmy Home in Ranong

Posted by corihiggins on 1/12/2017 at 08:29

The review of the Palmy Family Guesthouse in Ranong was so so about the food there and suggested eating next door. I was surprised to find that there was a new Japanese restaurant serving authentic food right at the Palmy front door. After traveling through Thailand for most of the month it was a real treat to have an alternative to the usual Thai food I’ve been eating. It’s reasonably priced, clean, and the owner obviously has been trained in Japan, he’s doing a really good job with au ...

hey guys, I will land in Phuket on 12. 2.with my 4 year old daughter and we have 2days to get to Koh Jum. As far as I found out,we need to travel to Krabi and catch a boat, right? Or are there shortcuts? As it is her first long flight and her first time in thailand I thought to chill down and stay for 1 or 2 nights at a place close to the airport or direction to Krabi. Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay? Or the best way to Koh jum? Thanks a lot* Anna ...

Things to do in northern Thailand

Posted by lohdennis on 29/12/2017 at 18:45

My wife and I (we are both in early 60's but in good general health) have spent a total of 3 weeks in Thailand in the past. 10 days in Bangkok (in two separate occasions) and the rest in Ayutayya, Sukhothai and Chiang Mai. Now we are doing a megatrip (10 weeks starting January 17, 2018) to SE Asia flying into Bangkok. For Thailand, we plan to spend a few days in BKK then fly to Chiang Mai. Then bus to Chiang Rai as our main base to visit Mae Sai, Mae Salong, Golden Triange, and Chiang Sa ...

The state of Thailand’s beaches

Posted by somtam2000 on 2/1/2018 at 23:24

Richard Barrow has a neat summary on the appalling state of Thailand beaches—out of 390 beaches which were surveyed only 13 were awarded five stars—and there are some pretty obscure ones in the list. As Richard says: "Back in the day, Phuket and Samui may have made this list. But sadly, those days are long gone. What we have now is not sustainable tourism. It is crazy that only 3.33% of the 390 beaches assessed are deemed clean enough to deserve a five star rating. With millions more ...

Khao Sok as a solo traveler

Posted by pobrien1902 on 17/11/2017 at 03:04

Does anyone have suggestions for a solo traveler in Khao Sok? Specifically, I’m interested in touring the lake and possibly staying the night on a floating house but would like to do so economically. I’m not crazy about the idea of taking a typical one day tour with 15 other tourists but would love to split the cost with a few other people-perhaps by hiring a boat at the pier. Is anyone there now that would be interested? Or has anyone been recently who might shed some light on what a typica ...

Five friends looking for a cycling tour to get to know Chiang Mai

Posted by trey2993 on 4/11/2015 at 00:52

Hi to all. We are five friends from Slovenia. We already made our way into the South and now we are planning to visit the North of Thailand for a week. We are going to spend 2 days in Chiang Mai and would like to get to know the city and get some info about the cultural aspects, temples, historical landmarks etc. We are thinking a cycling tour would be the best option as chiang Mai is quite flat. Any input on cycling tours in the area? What is the best? We are looking for something not expens ...
