We have 9 places to stay in and around Jakarta.
Jakarta’s main backpacker accommodation is traditionally around the Jalan Jaksa area, and plenty of basic guesthouses and homestays still exist in the area, but many haven’t upgraded (or cleaned the bathroom) for decades and the whole area can feel icky and grimy. However, the-times-they-are-a-changing and a smattering of modern backpacker hostels are popping up in or close to Jakarta’s tourist sights. Budget chain hotels have dominated most of the flashpacker to midrange market, while if you want to ease yourself in gently and splurge a little, some terrific mid-to high-end boutique style digs are on offer.
We have concentrated our listing on Central Jakarta (with just a couple of outliers in Kota Tua in the north), as this area is close to sights, restaurants, transport and other tourist needs, but if you are after a slightly leafier area, look around Kemang in the South or for shopping and action, Block M is another popular locale.
