If you've got a question though, you'd be better off to start a new thread. Thanks! When is the best time for a cyclist to travel in mainland South East Asia? What should I bring? Should I bring a map? Are guidebooks useful? Should I take a partner? Is cycle touring safe in Southeast Asia? Is camping nece ...

On the recommendation of long time member Tilapia, welcome to cycling section of the Travelfish forum. To get things going, I've searched through for some existing threads on cycling, but I'm sure there'll be a host of new posts coming in now that we've got a dedicated thread for this topic. As someone who positively belongs to the mindset of "why pedal when you've got a motorbike handy" I'm not the best equipped to put an FAQ together on this topic, but I'll try and get one rustled up in ...

One Month Cycling through SE Asia: Best Route Advice!
Posted by monkeymonkey on 16/10/2012 at 03:23Hi! I have one month to cycle through SE Asia and am looking for the best start point, ending in Thailand, but starting anywhere between Laos, Cambodia, or Vietnam. I'd like to see as much of those 3 or 4 countries as possible, but obviously don't want to stretch it too thin. If anyone has suggested routes [specific routes, as this is my first time in any of those countries and I'm really unfamiliar with the names and roads/ ferries and how long it'll take to traverse between them]I would love t ...

Cycle tour in West Java: possible routes?
Posted by TheUnionJack on 16/10/2016 at 21:11Hi there, My father and I are looking to go on a cycle tour in Indonesia during the summer. It would preferably be in West Java, but anywhere in Java is fine. We would do no more than 300-400 kilometres or 2 weeks of cycling, and it would hopefully be either a round-trip (starting and finishing in Jakarta) or including a train or maybe a ferry to get us back to Jakarta. Any ideas on routes we could take? Thanks very much! ...

Hello All, I know mostly everyone on this forum might be the DIY bike tourers - more power to you! But for those of you who have taken organized bike trips through SE Asia, do you have any to recommend? Or will you tell me to just save my money and go by myself? I'm interested in taking an organized trip (possibly Thailand, southern Laos, or Mekong Delta Vietnam) because I don't think I'm quite ready for a solo bike tour. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks, Molly ...
